Meet Sally
Welcome, I’m Dr Sally McDonald, founder of The Learning Doctor.
I am a Doctor of Education and qualified English teacher from Newcastle, with over a decade of teaching experience. I have been Higher Education Champion in a large secondary school and Vice-Chair of governors at another school.
I’ve taught hundreds of students (including many home-educated students and students with a wide range of additional needs) in a variety of diverse contexts. I have worked relentlessly to improve their life chances – even volunteering to take students sailing in the North Sea and on a 46 mile bike ride in some of my crazier moments!
I have a strong track record of GCSE results and my students have gained places at top independent schools, gone on to study at Oxbridge, pursue medical and legal careers, and hold prominent international positions. I am proud that I have also supported many students to achieve GCSE passes despite much lower predictions.
I provide rigorous academic support (supported by my work as an examiner for multiple exam boards) while also building strong relationships and nurturing students’ self-belief, which is often the biggest barrier to their success.
I am excited to be leaving the classroom to develop The Learning Doctor. I find tutoring incredibly rewarding and, as a mother of three young children, I am eager to be able to work around our busy family life. Moreover, I know that schools in our chronically underfunded education system are failing to meet the needs of many students, and I am eager to help them.
Our vision is to grow The Learning Doctor to offer support for all subjects, with packages to suit all budgets – though we will never compromise quality for growth. We will always rely on exceptional, highly experienced, fully qualified teachers.
All of our tutors hold enhanced DBS certificates. We are members of The Tutors’ Association and are registered with the ICO to ensure GCPR compliance.

Presently, we are only offering English tuition. However, we are planning to expand very soon, so please let us know if you are interested in another subject.
